Parent Volunteer Activities from Previous Years

STINGRAY GARDEN ANNUAL PLANTING:

Entire student body plants in either one of the 7 raised edible garden beds or throughout the school grounds. Parents may sign up to plant with their students’ class but are encouraged to help out with other classes as well. No prior knowledge of gardening necessary.

SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR:

Book Fair Volunteers are needed to check out students throughout the day during the week of the Book Fair, and to help put unsold books away.

STINGRAY GARDEN GREEN THUMBS CLUB:

Students are able to sign up for a special after school class in which they maintain the school’s gardens, harvest crops, and participate in related STEM activities.

Volunteer parents are welcome to either lead activities or merely supervise and assist. Of course, any volunteers will have regular access to fresh herbs, vegetables, and the occasional papaya (based on availability).

VALUES PROGRAM:

Parent volunteers lead a fun activity on a chosen theme encouraging our Kindergarten through Second Grade

Stingrays to focus on the Value of the Month based on the Values Matter Initiative. We need about 20 volunteers per month (for 1 to 2 hours only!!!) This is a very popular monthly activity for the students.

BINGO NIGHT:

One of our most fun events, parent volunteers can help prepare by securing food donations and also help out the night of the event by distributing food to attendees and selling cards to our guests.

BOX TOPS:

Volunteers will send out occasional information providing information about collecting Box Tops to the entire student body. Then volunteer(s) will collect box tops from the front office and mail them into General Mills. This is a convenient for someone who wants to volunteer but cannot spend a lot of time at the school.

SQUARE ONE ART:

Winter and Spring

A fundraiser where children make keepsake art that is superimposed on items for purchase such as mugs, t-shirts, notepads, keychains, water bottles, etc.… They make excellent presents for friends and family members and usually are available right in time for Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. Orders need to be collected from the front office and sent to the company.

PARKING EVENTS:

Our parking events are the biggest fundraisers of the year. Volunteers show up in 2-3 hour shifts to collect money and/or help usher cars into the parking lot and school field.

The parking is for King Mango Strut and for the Coconut Grove Arts Festival. Other openings TBD.

YEARBOOK:

Year-Round

Volunteers needed to assist with photography of events throughout the school year and the compilation of the yearbook.

PRINCIPAL’S HONOR ROLL & ICE CREAM SOCIAL:

Student Recipients of the Principal’s Honor Roll are invited to attend a Special Ice Cream Social with the Principal. There is one Ice Cream Social per quarter/every nine weeks. Volunteers are needed to step up and serve ice cream to the attendees.

TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK:

Volunteers will assist with planning, decorating, and setting up food and treats for staff during the week of Teacher and Staff Appreciation.

FIPA BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT:

An elegant evening event supporting our French Program (for parents only!) in a beautiful venue. Volunteers will help during the setting up, assist with food preparation, and decorations.

GALETTE DES ROIS:

Delicious event and an occasion to celebrate a Special French Tradition. Parent volunteer can help preparing the pastries and distributing them during the event.

CHANDELEUR - CRÊPES PARTY:

A favorite among the students, Chandeleur is the day when the children get to experience the very tasty French tradition of crêpes: marmalade, chocolate, Chantilly. Parent volunteers needed to prepare the crêpes and assist in serving the students.
